Welcome to Café Bertrand, a cozy gem nestled in the heart of Lisbon! Located at R. Garrett 73 75, this charming café offers visitors a delightful oasis within the historic ambiance of the city's oldest operating bookstore. Here, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee intertwines with the crisp pages of timeless novels, creating a unique atmosphere that brims with character and warmth.

The café’s intimate setting is perfect for anyone wishing to savor a moment of tranquility, whether you're enjoying a solitary cup of coffee or catching up with friends. The narrow street outside is blissfully free of traffic, allowing for quaint outdoor seating that invites you to linger. Picture yourself perched at a small table, a book in hand, sipping on a glass of FilipPato sparkling wine, while the bustling energy of the bookstore offers a delightful backdrop to your experience.

Café Bertrand may have a limited menu, but the quality of the offerings shines through. Customers rave about their scrumptious pastries, including the mouthwatering lemon meringue tart that many have praised for its generous size and delightful taste. Paulo Gaspar highlights the delicious orange cake and savory bacon quiche, both of which are nothing short of fantastic. Pair these indulgences with a cup of African Rooibos tea, or a local beer like APA, to elevate your taste experience even further.

But don’t just take our word for it! As Nick Acorne points out, while you might find even sweeter delights across Lisbon, the cozy atmosphere and friendly service at Café Bertrand make it a worthwhile stop. Lashen Naidoo notes that the efficient staff and the absence of long lines truly enhance your visit, making it easy to dive into a good book before or after your treat. Kris Mozalova affectionately refers to it as “the PEARL of the place,” capturing the essence of this beloved café perfectly.

In summary, Café Bertrand offers not just coffee but an experience steeped in the rich tapestry of Lisbon's cultural heritage. It's the perfect spot for a casual meeting, a cozy date, or simply a moment of solitude amid literary splendor. Whether you are a caffeine enthusiast, a pastry lover, or someone just looking to unwind, this café is a treasure waiting to be discovered. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy its warm ambiance and delectable treats on your next visit to Lisbon!

Good place to stop by for a coffee, the backery and sweets I found ok, but not in Lissabon you can find also better places kf you wanna take some sweets. The place is cosy with friendly waiters and in general looks nice.

Small but pleasant cafe at the back of the book shop. My coffee was good, and the lemon meringue tart was pleasant and of a fairly generous size.

Café is located in the back of the library, a cozy, homie feeling. Orange cake and bacon quiche are absolutely fantastic. The african tea is very nice: Rooebos tea. The local APA is great. Staff service is nice, friendly. Good command of English.

it is one of my favorite cafes of baixa-chiado area! cozy narrow street without traffic with small tables outside. perfect match for some meeting or a cup of smth for a self-ritual moment:) the atmosphere is also completed by book shop vibe, which you can feel even sitting outside (as i always do) i recommend filipa pato sparkling wine, which they always sell by the glass. the PEARL of the place is barista BRUNA she is such a lovely and careful hospitality face! friendly and attentive. thank you so much for your service

There's a lovely cafe at the end of a much longer than expected book shop and, on a hot day, it feels cool, light and airy with thick walls and high ceilings. The coffee was excellent, as were the tart and chocolate mousse. An oasis of calm just off a very busy and bustling street in central Lisbon.

This cafe is located inside a historic bookstore. You can find this cafe at the end of the fascinating, layered structure of the building.
